Amy Winehouse drank herself to death. This is the finding of the inquest on the singer, probably the same report that was accidentally mailed to the house of a random earlier this week before they handed it in. Before today, we only had the inconclusive autopsy results and the toxicology results that revealed nothing of value. Her parents were left to speculate and proselytize the singer’s new and improved lifestyle since they thought she’d quit drink and drugs cold turkey.
At the time of her death, Winehouse had no drugs in her system. However, today’s findings are that Winehouse drank herself to death with FIVE TIMES the legal limit of alcohol in her system, leaving British coroner Suzanne Greenaway to declare her death the ‘unintended consequence’ of drinking too much. The 27-year-old’s official cause of death according to the coroner’s inquest is ‘death by misadventure… [from] alcohol toxicity.’ There were two large bottles and one small bottle of vodka found in the bedroom of her London home. Her doctor, Christina Romete, who last saw Winehouse the evening before her death and who praised Winehouse for quitting drugs, admitted she’d started drinking again and was ‘tipsy,’ but ‘calm’ and coherent and ‘able to hold a conversation,’ on her last visit. She was not depressed, noted the doctor. Winehouse’s family issued a statement after hearing today’s findings: ‘It is some relief to finally find out what happened to Amy. We understand there was alcohol in her system when she passed away; it is likely a build up of alcohol in her system over a number of days. The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time.’
