Tomorrow’s launch party for the Brittany Murphy Foundation, arranged by her husband Simon Monjack, has been called off suddenly. The event was soliciting funds in the actress’ memory, asking individual attendees to donate $1,000 and corporations to donate $10,000. However Monjack has backed out, citing only family illness as the reason in an email he sent around to friends. This is a reason not supported by Rabbi David Baron of Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts, where the event was supposed to take place. The temple only confirm with TMZ that the person who phoned to cancel didn’t give a reason.
Monjack has had more criticisms than he could handle over the establishment of the Brittany Murphy Foundation, an organisation dedicated to arts and children. Namely because Monjack is reported to have been sued multiple times for bad debts and suffers the legal ramifications of all his bad business deals. The reason for his soliciting donations seems suspect to many, and this will only add to the bad publicity. It’s Brittany Murphy and her well-sullied memory I feel bad for.
