ASS-HAT-TERY was reportedly at Def Con Level 5 on Black Friday. Did anyone else hear about this lunacy? There was actually a death at a Wal-Mart on Friday - Jdimytai Damour, a Wal-Mart employee, was TRAMPLED TO DEATH by early morning shoppers at a New York Wal-Mart [Website – Amy Grindhouse]!
Were the crazy ass bitch shoppers really that desperate to get their bulk supply of toilet tissue at a discount that they would actually trample someone to death? What kind of fuckery is that? I am excited by half-off milk and cookies and what-not, but I’m not stepping on another person to get it!
According to The New York Times:
The throng of Wal-Mart shoppers had been building all night, filling sidewalks and stretching across a vast parking lot at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, N.Y. At 3:30 a.m., the Nassau County police had to be called in for crowd control, and an officer with a bullhorn pleaded for order.
Tension grew as the 5 a.m. opening neared. Someone taped up a crude poster: “Blitz Line Starts Here.”
By 4:55, with no police officers in sight, the crowd of more than 2,000 had become a rabble, and could be held back no longer. Fists banged and shoulders pressed on the sliding-glass double doors, which bowed in with the weight of the assault. Six to 10 workers inside tried to push back, but it was hopeless.
Suddenly, witnesses and the police said, the doors shattered, and the shrieking mob surged through in a blind rush for holiday bargains. One worker, Jdimytai Damour, 34, was thrown back onto the black linoleum tiles and trampled in the stampede that streamed over and around him. Others who had stood alongside Mr. Damour trying to hold the doors were also hurled back and run over, witnesses said. (more)

It is really frightening what the holiday season has become – it is sick consumer gluttony at its finest, and each year it gets worse and worse. We actually barricade ourselves in the house and work or just lay low – wouldn’t go to a store if we were starving to death.
Seriously, we actually PREPARE a few days before to make sure we do not have to leave the house the day after Thanksgiving, as it really is dangerous – out on the roads, in ANY store – total lunacy.
I do not know what turns people into this type of animal, I really don’t.

Hi Kelly – I do the same thing… I take a fortnight off at Christmas and stockpile beforehand, so that I only have to leave, if I am about to starve to death.
Us Brits are just as shamelessly bananas about sales, but I don’t remember anyone being killed?!?
There are some who are saying that Walmart should be charged with inciting a riot. Either way, they should have been much better staffed when they knew that the crowd at the store was likely to be out of control. Let’s hope that next year they spend the money to rent off-duty cops who can adequately control the situation.
