Angelina Jolie Defends Shiloh’s Clothing Choices

Angelina Jolie has clearly had enough of the cruel, snide, and unnecessary remarks made about her four-year-old daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s sexuality. The media has been having a field day with admissions from mother-of-six Jolie that one of her biological daughters, Shiloh (above), is transgendered. In her rather long interview with Vanity Fair, Jolie is quoted as discussing the below.

It’s been rumored for a while now that Shiloh Jolie-Pitt lives her life at home as a boy, demanding that she be called James and that she dress like her brothers, and now we have confirmation from Angelina Jolie that this is true. Angelina spoke to Vanity Fair this month about many aspects of her life, but particularly her children and her relationships with them.

Angelina spoke quite casually about her daughter’s demands to live her life as a boy, saying, “She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So, we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.” Shiloh is young enough that her preference to live life as a boy might be a phase, but if not, I think that it’s wonderful that Angelina is so open and “whatever” [about it all]. Adding to the above, in an interview with Reuters, Jolie defends her daughter.

“Children should be allowed to express themselves in whatever way they wish without anybody judging them because it is an important part of their growth. Society always has something to learn when it comes to the way we judge each other, label each other. We have far to go.”  Jolie says of Shiloh, “I think she is fascinating, the choices she is making. And I would never be the kind of parent to force somebody to be something they are not. I think that is just bad parenting.” [Entertainment Tonight]

  2. I have to say, I am not much a fan of Jolie for the most part, but I think she is doing just fine by the little girl, letting her dress and be comfortable in whatever she feels like wearing. I believe she shows some really good parenting in that decision.

I cannot believe so many people give a damn about what a four year old is wearing – don’t any of these folks who are carrying on so about it ever hear of the word “tomboy?” What is the big deal? It is not like she is running around in the snow in shorts and a tank top.

It seems like a really petty thing to harp on, just my opinion.

Yeah, I couldn’t even make it through some of the articles, name-calling a four-year-old, from ‘reputable’ sites too. Ugh.

Let Shiloh be a kid, man. Who the frak cares how she dresses. I hated dressing like a girl when I was her age – my mom let me dress the way I wanted and I turned out just fine.

The only damgae this little girl will receive is from the media and their pathetic ways.
