Alicia Keys is streaming her new album, free, exclusively through her Facebook fanpage. The star has taken the unusual move of allowing people to stream the entire album, The Element of Freedom, on Facebook. This is rather than take the lazy old route of going through grandfather of the Interwebs, MySpace. Since nothing is left on MySpace but teen cutters, people who are growing out of being emo, and the profiles of people who can’t be bothered to press delete.
The Element of Freedom isn’t officially released in stores until December 15, 2009. This step allows fans to listen to the whole album (as I’m about to do now), before grabbing the CD in stores later in the month. It’s a great step away from making people wait and then being shocked when people start bootlegging your shish. This way, the album will end up being distributed against her wishes, sure. But she’s in control and the fans are the ones who get to hear her music first.
