Alexander McQueen, the famed fashion designer, was found dead in his London home this morning. The death has been confirmed but the cause of death is more complicated. The official cause of death has not been confirmed or released. However, it is suspected that he committed suicide. According to Sky News McQueen was found hanged in his apartment. Given the manner in which he was found local police are not thought to be treating the death as suspicious.
A rep from McQueen’s office released a statement: “At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with family.”
McQueen was named British Designer of the Year on four occasions between 1996 and 2003. His designs were worn by the likes of Prince Charles to Rihanna, Lady GaGa, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kim Kardashian. He was awarded a CBE, and named International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards. McQ, a new line, was set to debut this afternoon at New York Fashion Week. He was also scheduled to premiere his new collection at Paris Fashion Week March 9, 2010. This is tragic, and a waste of a gifted artist.
